Throwing money at the problem is the only way ANet can solve it. Trying to close the flaws or institute an automated detection process would just set off the classic arms race between the cheaters and the developers...and I've yet to see a developer win that race.

That's pretty troubling if it's true. Sounds like a possible malware vector.

There are a lot of cheater, but the project who allow the bot to work itself its maintained by just few guy.

If anet manage to render invalid all the work they have done i don't think they will bother to do it all again for a dying game.

Sure, the same thing work the other way, im not sure if anet will bother to work to such extent on a old game.

They're definatly aware of the problem, aswell as aware of this thread. But Anet's past policy on major community issues was to simply stonewall the community, and after a year orso release some random update which sorta fixed the problem only to find that people simply didn't care anymore.

So my best gues:

About 1 year from now, they will release their new botcatching method, having Gaile/Regina march all proud into HA id1 only to find a tumbleweed rolling by...

The problem with the bots is that they act based on changes to the game environment and are not "repeated processes." I do not think A-Net is capable of detecting these bots, and hence, the have no solution or answer to the problem.

Well with this update they have nerfed several farming spots with the hosing of Sliver as well as redoing the skill set on the Vaettir's. So they didnt kill botting directly, but did take a shot at it in PVE by nerfing some of the ways they did so.

Unfort for pvp, it just got better for them, as they can now do things even faster =\

There are still plenty of places for bots to farm. Anet can't nerf them all without destroying the game. So plan on seeing them for quite some time.

2 of the most popular spots? You can still raptor farm, just not with an ele anymore. And Vaettirs were never that great imho. You can still run a raptor bot all day, and make an easy 200k on a daily average. They didn't really nerf that much.

There are many more bots than usual in JQ during this weekend.

Some are obvious bots, they heal themselves when is not needed when they are at full health, they use defense skills while staying idle inside the base, they get stuck and keep spamming stances... others simply run to a place, use a running skill and get killed (no, I'm not talking about necro bombers... seen a Rt/El simply running to yellow, ALWAYS, no matter who was holding the quarry, without doing anything else).

It doesn't matter that some people report. Many just say "what's the point in reporting? Anet doesn't care".

Why someone at Anet doesn't go into JQ and starts banning at least the obvious ones?

For the last 3 weeks everyday i have done Jade Quarry i have encountered the [City] bots and not only me but most the team keep reporting them. Anet should have had at least 100+ reports about each of the 5 members there are in the guild yet still they are being used. Quite clearly bots from the way they move, use skills and get confused when a shrine is capped before they can suicide themselves so they just stand there and spam SoA til they die. WHEN are you going to actually remove these bots that people keep reporting or is it because you for some perverse reason you wish to keep them???

Anet is unconcerned with bots, as long as they are not actively selling gold, in any way other than a token fashion.
Bots do nothing to disturb the Care Bear environment that Anet is seeking to create. As such, they will not divert support staff to botting issues as that would prevent those staff members from instituting questionable bans based on arbitrary readings of the rules of conduct in order to coddle the beloved Care Bears who populate their target demographic.
An earlier poster listed 4 examples of Anet behavior, including the "Conga Line" incident, suiting Anet needs. Expecting Anet to do otherwise will only provide you with false hopes of better behavior.
As long as your bot does nothing offensive to fracture the gentle psyches of the Care Bear market, your bot is safe.

Bots for both of those, consequences of poor design on ArenaNet's part.

While I was, originally, against the idea of bots in this game, when I looked at the sheer number of design flaws that it could fix: grind, the lack of a minion party window, the hero limit (follow bot), and so on, I realized that it's perhaps the best thing that's happened to GW in a long time.

Grind? I sometimes wonder if I play the same Guild Wars other people play. I wasn't aware I had to WoW it up to lvl 80.

Minion party window? Not necessary.

Hero Limit? Is this coming from a community that constantly touts how easy PvE is? That unless you're a noob, or some scrub, you can put any 8 skills on a bar and steam roll through PvE with only henchmen? That the introduction of heroes made the game even more easy to begin with?

Design flaws? No. These are player flaws.

Bad design? let me tell you why people bot :

the reason of why they started may differ, some just started, some other have seen their friend / fellow player start and started too to not get left behind.

But the reason of why they are doing it its simple : advantage over other player.
Maxing anything in guild wars is not obligatory even the pve skill allow to do anything hard mode with a middle rank of 4-6.

The design and grind are just a ready available excuses like the HA bots demonstrate.
